These round shape rustic serving boards are made from unique pieces of reclaimed timber, each of which will have acquired natural character and patina from previous use alongside the weathering affects that only real exposure to the natural elements sun, wind and rain delivers over time.

The reclaimed boards used to make up each piece are selected for interesting side-grain, ring patterns and weathering affects. They are sanded carefully in three separate stages to leave a smooth as possible surface grain texture whilst also retaining their natural, rustic weathered character after the final stage of processing.

They are completed with an oil/beeswax finish which gently enhances the contrast of natural weathered features against the matured wood grain colourations and natural spalting affects which may have developed within the timber.

As with all timber measurements width and thicknesses are nominal dimensions so may vary slightly across the individual pieces used to make up each serving board. Variation in width and thicknesses across a selection of boards is an inherent nature of formerly sawn/dimensioned timber that has subsequently undergone natural weathering, ageing and seasoning affects — the overall finished width of some serving boards may vary slightly above/below the stated dimension as a consequence.

NATURALLY AGED RECLAIMED WOOD

All the reclaimed wood used comes from heat-treated timber i.e. this timber has not undergone any industrial chemical preservative treatments so is safe for the home environment.

This is weathered reclaimed wood so each piece may contain knots, small cracks, variations in thickness and the odd nail hole, along with varying colouration from sun, wind and rain exposure and naturally occurring spalting affects occurring within the timber over time — these features are not defects but the inherent character of naturally aged wood.

We do not stain these serving boards to make them look “rustic” and we specifically do not offer a range of different wax/stained finishes that you may find offered elsewhere. We only deal with genuinely aged, weathered or reclaimed timber where natural processes and time have already created a wide variation of character, patina and matured wood colouration affects that, otherwise, heavily pigmented stain finishes are attempting to mimic. These types of stains are really formulated for and will generally be used on newly cut commercial white/pale softwood timber … we only use naturally aged weathered reclaimed timber boards to make these serving boards.
