These naturally rustic wood shelf boards are all cut down to length from aged, weathered and seasoned reclaimed timber. Some boards may be be naturally lighter and some may be darker in character depending on age or variation in timber species/origin. However, each shelf board will have acquired a natural patina from former usage, including [potentially] bumps, scrapes, cracks, saw/cut marks, the odd nail hole or other such similar blemishes, alongside weathering effects that only real exposure to the natural elements sun, wind and rain delivers over time.

Each board is cut to your selected length and then carefully sanded in a three-stage process in order to to retain their industrial blemishes and weathered nature leaving a fine smoothed surface texture. Both freshly cut end-grain sections are sanded to high polished-like surface and the sharp cut edges gently rounded over before the final stage of higher-grade, all-around brush-sanding. The boards are then completed with an oil/beeswax finish which not only protects the timber from day-to-day use, but also subtly enhances the grain pattern, contrasts and naturally aged character of the timber.

Please Note:
We do not stain these boards to make them look ‘rustic’ and we specifically do not offer a range of different wax/stain finishes that you may find offered elsewhere from other online vendors. We only deal with genuinely aged, weathered or reclaimed timber where natural processes and time have already created a wide variation of character, patina and matured wood colouration affects that, otherwise, heavily pigmented stain finishes are attempting to mimic. These types of stains are formulated for and usually applied to newly cut commercial white/pale softwood timber … we only use naturally aged, weathered, reclaimed timber to make these shelf boards.

Variation in width and thicknesses across a selections of boards is an inherent nature of formerly sawn/dimension timber that has subsequently undergone natural weathering, ageing and seasoning affects.

These sample pieces alone make nice rustic wood base for displaying or mounting decorative items around your home, office or workplace.

METAL SHELF BRACKETS

Each shelf board comes with the option [if selected] to include a pair of heavy-duty raw/unpainted metal brackets. These brackets are made from heavy-duty 6mm thick x 40mm wide flat-bar steel and are pre-drilled with holes for wall mounting along with the supplied screw and wall-plug fixings.

For reference regarding the style of bracket we supply; these brackets, once mounted on your wall will run down the wall, go behind and underneath the shelf board so there will be 6mm gap between wall and timber board, they feature a turned-up ‘lip’ on the end of the bracket arm that supports the shelf board. Please see listing photos illustrating this bracket design.

Each metal bracket pair is supplied with a set of universal masonry/plasterboard/timber fixings and can safely support** up to 20kg’s each (40kg’s per pair) when installed and fixed correctly to a correspondingly strong/solid building structure.

Each shelf board is made from weathered reclaimed wood so each piece may contain knots, small cracks and colour variation from sun, wind and rain exposure along with naturally occurring spalting affects which may have occurred within the timber over time — these features are not defects but the inherent character of naturally aged, weathered, reclaimed timber.
